Timothée Chalamet to Receive David for Cinematic Excellence
Date: May 7, 2023
The Prestigious Award Ceremony
Timothée Chalamet is set to be honored with the David for Cinematic Excellence at the 70th David di Donatello Awards, Italy’s most distinguished film awards. The ceremony will broadcast live in primetime on Rai 1 from Cinecittà Studios in Rome, with actress Elena Sofia Ricci and singer Mika serving as hosts. Additionally, the event will be available on Rai Radio2, presented by Carolina Di Domenico and Claudio Santamaria.
Recognition of Artistic Achievement
Piera Detassis, the president and artistic director of the Academy of Italian Cinema, highlighted Chalamet’s unique blend of European roots and American upbringing, making him “one of the most unpredictable and talented protagonists of international cinema today.” She also emphasized his role as both an auteur performer and a trendsetting star, stating, “The academy is delighted to award him the David for Cinematic Excellence, which is meant to be an acknowledgement of the great actor of quality and innovative films, and, at the same time, of the global protagonist.”
Detassis reflected on how Chalamet’s global acclaim was largely propelled by the film Call Me by Your Name, directed by renowned Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino. This film serves as a “crossroads of cultures and visions,” perfectly aligning with the spirit of the David di Donatello celebration.
