Just days before the opening night performance, McAlpine expressed her excitement over a cup of chamomile tea, stating, “I am having the best time of my life.” The 25-year-old artist first garnered attention through heartfelt songs like “Ceilings” and “Pushing It Down and Praying,” gaining a strong social media following. “I was really shy in middle school, and even the beginning of high school,” McAlpine recalled. “It took me a while to come out of my shell, and theater helped me with that so much.” Despite her initial doubts, she pursued a place at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. It was there that she created her first album, Give Me a Minute, and collaborated with producer Philip Etherington on her subsequent records.
Reflecting on her time at Berklee, McAlpine shared, “I thought I might’ve made the wrong decision, but I stuck with it. I think about this all the time. I don’t know where I would be if I hadn’t gone.” With the upcoming release of her third album, Older, in 2024, McAlpine appears to be successfully merging her musical and theatrical aspirations.
