The Pregnancy Scare Moment
Amber Portwood, a star of Teen Mom, recently revealed a shocking admission: she faked a pregnancy scare to avoid filming for the MTV reality show. The surprising moment unfolded on the February 6th episode, as Amber called the production team in distress, asking them to bring a pregnancy test.
In an emotional phone conversation with a producer named Aaron, Amber shared her feelings of panic. “I’m freaking out,” she admitted. “Can’t we just do this tomorrow before I, like, completely cry and go and sit in a corner?” When asked if she suspected she was pregnant, Amber hesitated, stating, “I mean, it’s possible. It was an ex. It was a complete, like, aftershock breakup situation. I’m just freaked out right now. I’m scared. Just pray for me that I wasn’t too much of a jackass.”
The Truth Behind the Scare
However, Amber later confessed that she wasn’t pregnant and had never taken the test. Instead, the star opened up about using lies to avoid filming obligations. “I’m sorry,” she said, explaining how she had used false excuses in the past to avoid showing up on set. “There’s been many times in my life where I’ve had to lie in order to get out of doing things because I’m not able to get ready, get dressed, move around, do anything. You just lie to people and say, ‘Oh, I’m busy’ or ‘I have this sickness.’”
Struggles with Mental Health
Amber has been transparent about her ongoing mental health struggles, including her diagnosis of bipolar disorder. This personal insight sheds light on why she sometimes feels unable to fulfill her commitments on the show.
A Tough Year for Amber
The pregnancy scare episode took place amidst several difficult life events for Amber. Just months earlier, her engagement to Gary Wayt ended after his sudden disappearance. Amber, clearly heartbroken, expressed her pain, saying, “I’m more than heartbroken. I’m f—ed up from what he did to me… We’re talking trauma. Being told you’re a murderer and thinking your fiancé’s dead.” Wayt was later found safe, and the investigation was closed.
Challenges in Her Relationship with Leah
Amber also reflected on her strained relationship with her 16-year-old daughter, Leah, whom she shares with ex-husband Gary Shirley. “With my daughter, she doesn’t want to be around me,” Amber confessed. She admitted that she struggles with how to reconnect with Leah while coping with her emotional challenges.
Continuing Her Journey on Teen Mom
Despite these setbacks, Amber remains open about her journey on Teen Mom. The show airs new episodes on MTV Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET, continuing to document her personal and family struggles.
